Every time I meander by Welling Court and its murals, I notice a little something new. Today, this watchful woman---a small painting bolted to a stop sign on 30th Avenue---caught my eye.

Stuck up
Astoria and Long Island City are a veritable treasure trove of sticker art. (Below, a small glimpse of the galleries on the street; these are from a newspaper box on 30th Avenue.) The man's face sketched on a priority mail sticker is a particular favorite of mine---oddly touching when juxtaposed with the piece that reads "It hurts really bad."
At the origin
A view of a piece by Cui Fei, Tracing the Origin XVII, on display at Socrates Sculpture Park.
Blessed birdseed
The inflatable Buddha (Floating Echo) may be getting more mainstream attention. But for my money, one of the most interesting pieces at the Emerging Artist Fellowship 2012 exhibit at Socrates Sculpture Park is Feed by Fernando Mastrangelo. Head down by the water to see the Virgin Mary cast in seed -- and it might not be a bad idea to go now, before the birds pick the rest of her away.
Map mashup
This piece of street art, on 35th Street in Astoria, is a cool combination of a subway map and stenciled images.
