The remnants of a sign linger over 32nd Street in Astoria.

Floating sculpture
Seen off the shore by Socrates Sculpture Park: a mysterious watercraft. Look forward to seeing what this turns into! Last week, apparently, only the floating wooden circle was anchored out there.
Welling montage
Since there was more, much more, to Welling than the picture I posted yesterday, here's a little slide show.

New(ish) works at Welling Court
It's been awhile since I checked in on the murals at Welling Court; a lot of new art is out. One of my favorite pieces is a stretch by ENX (according to 12ozprophet.com, which offers a nice guide to some of the other work down by the water in Astoria).
Fig season already?
In our apartment's backyard, there are three fig trees. The fruit ripens in mid- to late summer, and the figs have already begun to drop. I'm determined to make better use of them than I have in the last few summers; today, I picked a pound or two and made a fresh fig cake (the batter is delicious, and I can imagine substituting any number of seasonal fruits for figs throughout the year).
I'm looking for other recipes -- roasted figs, or figs with cheese (goat cheese, mascarpone), seem like the usual suspects. I also like the looks of the figgy buckwheat scones at 101 Cookbooks; is there anything else I'm missing out on?
