Collage Artists of America Pushing Boundaries show

I’m thrilled to have two pieces in “Pushing Boundaries,” a juried show by Collage Artists of America. It will be up at Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center in Burbank, CA, from May 5-25, 2023.

My pieces are “Arisen from the faults of language” and “Whiteout” — you can see shots of each in the gallery below. Both skew toward abstraction, and play with language and ideas of what it can reveal or conceal.

For the full show, expect the unexpected — collage and mixed media works from some of the best collage artists in the States! Grateful to be a part of what I hope will be a great show.

Pleased to have a few pieces in the Northwest Collage Society’s Fall/Winter show, “Every Picture Tells a Story Don’t It.” You can see it all in person in Mukilteo, Washington, at the Rosehill Community Center, through January 25, 2023. Winter Light at Bush Barn Art Center

I’m pleased to have two pieces in the Winter Light show at Bush Barn Art Center, from the Salem Art Association. It’s up now through December 24; here’s a little more about the show:

In the dark, gloomy days of winter, light plays an important role in lifting the spirits and brightening lives around the world. To counteract the darkness, cultures – both here and abroad – hold festivals of light. This exhibition showcases the many different people living together in the Willamette Valley and celebrating winter with their own, unique customs.

Salem Art Association, in collaboration with Salem Multicultural Institute, presents Winter Light, a juried exhibition of the work of local artists, depicting the beauty of light in the still, quiet moments found in nature and in the warmth of hearth and home.

Pleased to have one of my pieces of analog collage added to the Kanyer Art Collection. What’s that, you say? Well, read on to learn more about this collection of collage art, and the collectors behind it.

About the Doug + Laurie Kanyer Art Collection

The Kanyers are the founders of the Doug + Laurie Kanyer Art Collection. They reside in the Central Region of Washington State, USA. The Kanyers have been art collectors since 1978, starting in their college years. 
In 2016, to celebrate their anniversary they dedicated all their future collecting efforts to collage in order to amplify and magnify the medium and its practitioners. To date the Kanyers have one of the most extensive private collections of collage in the world. They have underwritten numerous collage based exhibitions, publications, collage festivals, symposiums, classes, as well as held many no charge international open calls for collage. The Kanyers make Gift Grants on a regular basis to support those who are working to magnify and amplify collage.


All the collages selected for the Collection are measured against a 40 point criteria to assure quality representation of the medium. The Collection is essentially a historical archive. The end goal of the Collection is for it to be donated to a worthy institution for study and enjoyment by the public. A catalog sample of the Collection can be seen at kanyerartcollection.com.


In 2021, the Kanyers founded Kanyer Publishing and released two books, Collage Care: Transforming Emotions and Life Events with Collage written by Laurie Kanyer and Black Collagist: The Book, written and curated by Teri Henderson. At present they are in the final editing process for the book Collage Care The Method Guidebook (working title), which will feature over 30 self-guided collage-making exercise-experiences on emotions, feelings and life events.

Laurie is a retired therapist and educator, who has a vibrant collage practice herself. Doug is an economist and business owner. They have three grown children, two sons-in-laws and two grandchildren.

National Collage Society 38th Annual Juried Show

I joined the National Collage Society this year, and was pleased to be selected for their annual juried show. My piece, “words fail,” is shown below — and you can see all 70 pieces in the online exhibit here! You can also see it in person at Coburn Art Gallery in Ashland, Ohio. Congrats to all the talented artists; I’m humbled and honored to show with you.
