In Greenpoint, at the end of a street that terminates at Newtown Creek, these three figure studies were set against graffiti scrawled on cement blocks: an unexpected wonder.
LIC(halk)
On the streets of Long Island City, art wrought from chalk, soon to wash away.
Cracked
A fractured window in Long Island City.
Sculptural
New installations have been going up along Park Avenue; a series of Alice Aycock pieces are planted in the median. Apparently inspired by extreme weather events -- cyclones, tornadoes -- the works are a breath of fresh air; below, a detail from one sculpture.
Around Arthur Avenue
It's been a few years since I've explored Arthur Avenue; today, we wandered there again. Saw some street art, ate a great meal at Zero Otto Nove, and enjoyed a walk in the sunshine: a lovely day overall.
Morning tea
A steaming cup: the only way to start the day.
As the sun goes down
Two views of sunset from the 36th Avenue N/Q station: one facing Steinway, and one more traditionally breathtaking view facing the river.
Walking in LIC
On a quiet winter day, there's still much to see around Long Island City, including strange scrawls, sculpture, and slush.
Trees of winter
The trees of early March remain stripped branches against a bare sky.
Ah, diners
So many nice humble diners to try, such little time. (From the Upper East Side, Ritz Diner awash in harsh light.)
Inspiration indeed
Walked part of the Hudson Greenway today, so of course I admired the view at Inspiration Point.
Snowy park scene
In Central Park, the snow looks so peaceful, but out on the street, it's slush. Just a few more weeks of winter?
