Tucked-away places

July 23, 2012

I don't often walk up Steinway past Ditmars, but I found myself there this past Sunday. If you turn left on 19th Avenue and walk back, bearing toward the N/Q train tracks, you eventually come across the old Steinway & Sons Factory and an outpost of Ferrari Driving School; there, we saw a handful of people learning how to drive motorcycles, cruising up and down the otherwise deserted street in neon-orange vests for safety. You can also make your way down to a marshy little cove and marvel at two abandoned dock-like structures; above, you can see the lonely remains of one, sinking in the mid-afternoon sun.
